Ministry of Customs and Revenue and
Samoa Institute of Accountants sign
Memorandum of Understanding

The Ministry of Customs and Revenue and the Samoa Institute of Accountants have strengthened their partnership by renewing their partnership agreement since 2012. The agreement sets out the principles on how the two organisations will work together for the wellbeing of Samoa’s tax system.

The agreement reinforces principles around professional respect, communication and recognition of each other’s respective positions. “The Ministry expresses its gratitude to the Institute and its ongoing support over the years providing pivotal accounting advice towards building a stronger tax administration for a safer, secure and prosperous Samoa” Seumanu Ieni Asani Sheppard in her remarks.

She further added that the Ministry acknowledges the Institute’s valuable input in strengthening capacity for its tax agent profession enforced under the Tax Administration Act 2012, in order to improve and promote voluntary compliance of its clients by improving our understanding of the factors that influence compliance behaviors, so we can tailor our approaches to meet customers needs’.

The President of the Samoan Institute of Accountants Sooalo Kuresa Sooalo agreed with the notion saying “Our members have been pleased with the recent consultations with the Ministry regarding the requirements of its tax agent registration system and identified synergies between legislations of both organizations”.
